Trendy Tuesdays with Lucky Linden: Upcoming Jewelry Trends

I know by this time in the year I usually need a wardrobe refresher. I don't feel like going shopping in the middle of the winter season but I can always get some excitement in my wardrobe by adding accessories. For Spring, here are some of the jewelry trends to look out for.

Tassel earrings and fringe necklaces: This trend was seen a lot on the Spring runway from Chanel, Louis and Dior. Here's an example of a nice one by Bebe.

Medallions: These ones by Kara Ross and Lois Hill on the Max and Chloe site are really nice.

Plastics and Perspex: Colored fun jewelry that's 60's inspired will be big for Spring. You can find them from brands like Karen Walker, or Marni. The acrylic rings are really nice you can find them on Etsy.com. They are handmade.

Trendy Tuesday With Lucky Linden: Trends For Natural Hair

Being that 67% of women have kinky/curly or wavy hair it makes a lot of sense that naturally curly should always be in style. This however is not the case because of stigmas and certain impressions of "big" hair. One of the people who is trying to change that is Lorraine Massey, the owner of Soho's Devachan Salon specifically targeting curly and multicultural hair. Her book came out last week "The Curly Girl Handbook" and I picked it up yesterday. I haven't read through the entire book but so far I like what I've read. It gives tips on how to style your hair in its natural state, and how to wash and even trim your own hair. I know that a lot of us (including myself) have had addictions to wash and sets but this will give you an alternative to wear and care for your own natural hair. It saves money, is green because it saves energy and will help you to accept your natural self. The book is a little extreme with limitations on products and caring for the hair. For example, the author says you may NEVER straighten your hair. I disagree, although heat is damaging you can certainly do it once in a while, just condition it extra afterward. Also she forbids certain ingredients in products such as silicones aka:cones. I feel like whatever works on your hair use it, there isn't any need for me to be radical about it. Overall the book has some great advice and even recipes for homemade hair products. I think Curly Girl Handbook is a good buy if your trying to ride the natural wave. Natural is always in style. ~Lucky Linden~

Trendy Tuesday With Lucky Linden: What to Expect in Fashion for the New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I thought I'd let you know about one thing that is here to stay for the New Year! Unlike everything else that is changing..According to everyone's facebook pages. LOL
I predicted the death of Animal Print for Spring..Not because I wanted it but just a wild guess!.. It seems its not going anywhere for Spring. And neither are leggings! YAYY..One great trend thats here to stay for Spring is printed leggings.
Here is how to wear them:

Pair a wild print of leggings with a Jersey dress, Tunic top or long sweater...Try to make sure it covers your butt unless you are extremely slender and you do not have on opaque (see -thru) tights on.

Add a neutral colored bootie or platform sandal, accessories and you're done!

Trendy Tuesday With Lucky Linden: Review of Hellobeautiful Salon

So, last week I got a dramatic change in my look. I got my hair cut into a layered bob just in time for the holidays. I wanted to go somewhere good and a friend recommended a hairstylist named Faith from the Hello Beautiful salon in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I decided to post a little review of my experience there. Faith specializes in cutting, coloring and styling curly hair like mines. I wanted a look that would be able to wear curly as well as straight and I knew I wanted bangs. So when I first came into the salon it had a grungy trashy 80's feel to it. There was pink leopard print everywhere. It was kind of cute.. Very laid back..A dog jumped on my coat and I said that I was allergic to dogs and the stylist moved my things. Now, on to the styling...She first had a consultation with me and asked me about my hair, she touched it and she recommended that I cut it in a layered bob. She washed my hair and blew it out and then she started snipping away at my hair. When she was done my long hair had been transformed into a short bob with bangs! It took a couple days to get used to but I realllly think Faith is a talented stylist and I got a good haircut. If you're interested in the salon the website is hellobeautifulsalonnyc.com. They do all sorts of other things at the salon such as makeup, nails and extensions.

Trendy Tuesday With Lucky Linden: How To Walk (Properly) In Heels

Everyone has seen that girl walking in a fly pair of heels but ruined it by walking like a duck or looking awkward and stiff. Walking in heels takes practice and wikihow.com has a nice little mini guide about strutting in heels.

Start small and work your way up. Don't go from not ever having worn heels to slipping on some 4 inch stilettos. There are many heels to choose from, varying in height, thickness and shape. Training your feet will allow your ankles to develop the strength they need to walk safely and gracefully in high heels.
Practice. Wear your heels for a day around the house before you wear them out.

Add cushioning wherever there's a lot of pressure and/or friction. There are cushions made in various shapes and from different materials that you can stick on the inside of your shoe for more comfortable walking. Use them generously.
Give your feet a break. Sit down every twenty minutes or so.[2] If you're in the bathroom, sit down. Don't take your heels off, this will only allow the pain to worsen. They swell a bit after you take them off, which makes it harder to continue after.

Take baby steps
Put your heel down first right before your toes (don't plop them down at the same time, and don't put your toes down first). Once your weight is on the balls of your feet, shift your weight forward, as if you're walking on your tip toes.

My 2 cents: Remember: Being fashionable is all about being comfortable (as possible) while still looking great.

Trendy Tuesdays: Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Black Pink White

2009′s Nike Air Griffey Max 1 retro in Varsity Royal and Volt was an instant sellout, a look popular enough to spawn a GS-sized run that should hit Nike Sportswear accounts soon after the new year. The above pictured pair of AGM1s isn’t 100% a GS model, but you’d have to at least lean that way with its high contrast pink/black/white colorup. Just think of all the girls in pink Boston Red Sox gear who could fit this into their baseball costumes! They’d probably be a big hit with the ladies even if they were your typical mens release, so have a closer look after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for updates.

Trendy Tuesdays With Lucky Linden: Nicki Minaj @ the Wendy Williams Show

In time for her Album release Nicki appeared on the Wendy Williams show on November 17th. Nicki had one of her signature wigs on (blonde with pink tips) and wore a pink leggings with black lace over the top. I think that she has ALOT of personality in her style. I don't think it matters who she is influenced by she still makes it her own. I also like her chunky bangles and the colorful scarf. I would steal those two things from her look here and keep the rest of my outfit neutral. If you want bangles like that you can find someone who sells painted bangles. I know a really great accessories designer her name is Stephanie Vidal shes a FIT grad. More info about Stephanie to come.

Trendy Tuesdays: AIR JORDAN 13 BLACK/RED TO RETURN IN 2010?

With loads of big ticket retros coming back including three original colorways of the Air Jordan 13 are we set to see yet another? Recently VMVinc, notorious for getting early shipments of upcoming releases, put up a run of Black/Red 13s labeled as 2010 retro with a ship date at the end of the month. Could this be a holiday surprise from JB? Don’t get too excited as the model number listed is the same 2004 retro and different than that of the upcoming Flints and White/Red retro.
