The Game' breaks BET ratings, gets 2nd chance

After nearly two years off the air and in limbo "The Game" has returned to TV, giving BET a big ratings boost and fans another chance to share the highs and lows of a football wife and her athlete husband.
The show premiered its fourth season Tuesday night on BET after a three season run on the CW that was canceled in 2009. "The Game" set a ratings record for BET, which said 7.7 million viewers tuned in, making it the No. 1 original telecast on the network, and No. 2 of all-time, behind the 2009 BET Awards, which had 10.2 million viewers and took place three days after the death of Michael Jackson.
"We're coming out hitting hard," said executive producer Salim Akil. "We really hope it opens BET up to more voices, to more people being able to come in and pitch shows and have a variety of different scripted shows on the network."
"BET has been absolutely top-notch in the way that they've been handling this, from allowing us to be creatively free ... to the advertising to now having the cast at TCA," continued Akil, referring to the recent Television Critics Association gathering in Pasadena, Calif. "All of the things that we didn't get over there at CW, we're getting at BET."

DMX Moved To Mental Health Unit
Rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, is housed in a mental-health unit at an Arizona State Prison Complex facility called Alhambra near 25th street and Van Buren.
DMX was sentenced to a year in jail (minus 113 days served) on December 16, after he pleaded guilty to
violating the terms of his probation. At his sentencing, Judge Christine
Mulleneaux told him she believes he has "an undiagnosed mental
condition," possibly bi-polar disorder.
DMX's manager, Nakia Walker, wouldn't comment
specifically on whether DMX might have a mental disorder, but she says
she wasn't surprised when he was moved to a mental-health unit. The
rapper himself always has refused to comment on speculation about his
mental state. In 2001, he threatened to beat up writer William Shaw for
asking about it in a Blender magazine interview. "Waaaay too personal," DMX said.
The embattled hip-hop star is incarcerated for the 13th time. His record
includes more than 25 arrests across the nation, 11 felony convictions,
and 15 misdemeanor convictions.
Arizona Department of Corrections files confirm that DMX was admitted to the Flamenco Mental
Health Unit at Alhambra on December 20. According to Walker, he will not
be allowed to have visitors for 30 days.

G-Dep Confesses To 17-Year Old Murder

It’s not everyday people walk into a police station and confess to a murder they committed nearly two decades ago, but that’s just what happened Wednesday night.
Travell Coleman aka G-Dep confessed to murdering a man on October 19, 1993 in Harlem, New York.
“It was just eating away at him,” a police source told The New York Post.
Police say they are sure Dep commited the crime because he knew details only the killer would know.
According to Dep he was riding his bike when he rolled up on 32-year old John Henkel, who he attempted to rob. Henkel resisted and was shot three times.
Dep was once signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records and had a hit records with “Special Delivery” and "Let's Get It" in 2001.
Remember The Tho
Recently though, the rapper has fallen on hard times, battling a reported heroin addiction.
He’s been arrested at least 25 times since 2003 for a variety of crimes including grand larceny and robbery.

New York Murder Rate Up

NYDaily News writes:
It's late Saturday night, sometime after 3 a.m.
A black man with a history of drug crimes, somewhere between 25 and 40 years old, is hanging on the streets with a gun-toting pal.
That man is the New Yorker most likely to be murdered in 2010.
A Daily News review of the latest NYPD crime statistics shows drugs are a factor in at least half of city homicides - and two out of three victims are black.
Stats through Tuesday reveal 49% of all murder victims are involved with drug use and/or drug sales. The figure is 53% for murder suspects.
The numbers say 67% of murder victims are black, with 25% Hispanic and just 4% white.
In 12% of city slayings, drugs are the exclusive motive. Police say that figure is much higher when other factors such as previous disputes and criminal histories of victims and suspects are included.
The days, times and places where death is most imminent for New Yorkers:
* The deadliest day of the week: Saturday (89 murders).
* The safest: Tuesday (58 murders).
* The deadliest time of day: 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. (41 murders).
* The deadliest weapon: Guns, used in 62% of all killings.
* The deadliest precinct: Brooklyn's 75th, with 30 murders.
Much of the data mirrors past years, when black men were most often targeted in fatal shootings.
The city's homicide total stands at 476 through Tuesday, compared with 470 for all of 2009. Police suggest the bump indicates the NYPD is also a victim - of its own success after last year's record low.
Tony Fields, whose barbershop sits in the city's most lethal precinct, never noticed much change around his East New York business. "It's not that complicated," said Fields, 44. "Lots of guns and drugs equals a high murder rate. Get rid of the drugs. Get rid of the guns. Get rid of the murders."
Retired Correction Officer Tony Armstrong, 47, said the neighborhood's reputation for mayhem was nothing new.
"I'm not surprised that we have the highest murder rate," he said. "It's East New York."
The stats also showed 65% of killings occur outdoors; only 10% of murder suspects were women, and 77% of victims knew their killers.
The last figure underscores what police have maintained for years: There's little chance of a law-abiding New Yorker dying at the hands of a stranger.
A Bronx double homicide last month typified the city's drug killings. Saleem Sterling, who had been arrested three times for possession, was shot to death with a second man outside a building in the Soundview Houses.
Sterling, 30, had drugs stashed inside a body cavity, police said.
"He was a nickel-and-dime peddler," said local resident Raymond Lee Wilson, 56. "This is my 'hood. It was his 'hood, too. People feel trapped here."
His mother remained perplexed yesterday about her son's brutal demise. "He had no fear in these projects," said Marsha Sterling, 56, whose son was a part-time deejay and dad of a 7-year-old boy. "Who would shoot my son in the head?"
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said the department was still focused on derailing the deadly drug trade.
"We still do a lot of buy-and-bust operations," Browne said. "We also do undercover work to infiltrate drug trafficking organizations."
The Rev. Al Sharpton said the homicide numbers were unsurprising and unacceptable.
"The most racially biased thing we could do would be to act like it's normal - that we are helpless to change things," Sharpton said. "We are not. But we need to change the culture. It breaks my heart when I see kids wearing Scarface T-shirts instead of Malcolm X T-shirts. That's making the culture of dealing drugs acceptable.

Christina Millian Gets 4 Mill in Divorce From Dream

Christina Milian has millions of reasons to smile today.
The L.A. Times is reporting the singer got nice chunk of change in her divorce settlement from The-Dream.
Dream has to cough up a lump sum of $4 million plus $5,000 a month in child support.
Not a bad payday for a marriage that didn't even last a year.
The pair were married in September 2009, but by July 2010, The-Dream was photographed all boo-boo up with his assistant.
In exchange for the settlement and continued support, Milian has reportedly signed a strict non disclosure agreement. So there won't be any books or talks dishing dirt on her ex.
